Escape to Outpost 10
So what’s this all about then?
Well it’s pretty much as it describes on my landing page really. it’s just a personal site where I can share things which interest me. A good old fashioned blog like what they used to have in years gone by, before the advent of Web 2.0 and the explosion of social media
Why don’t you just use Facebook like everyone else?
I do use Facebook. I’m an all too frequent flyer. It’s all well and good and I get to be in touch with friends on the regular and post nonsense. I just found that each time I was posting slightly longer and more info driven posts, it was getting lost in the noise and not always reaching those who are interested (and often being commented on by those who aren’t, as is the nature of Facebook). It’s actually a bloody awful platform to use in many ways but unfortunately, it’s a necessary evil because you know, everyone else uses it. I deleted it completely for two years and whilst that was very liberating, it became problematic for networking with the band and keeping an eye on events. Plus, I wasn’t keeping apprised of what everyone was having for lunch or what the weather was like
Why is it called “Outpost 10”?
It’s a (UK) postcode thing, those who know, know 😉
So, a blog then?
I have actually kept an online blog on and off for the best part of 20 years at the time of writing. The previous incarnation was Northern Stories. I’d not posted on it for quite a few years and I decided on a fresh start. The purpose and tone of Northern Stories was quite different from who I am now and the thought of simply carrying that on with all the baggage contained within was somewhat of an albatross. Still, there have been a few people who told me they enjoyed it over the years, so I’ll leave it up for now and port a few of the pages across as and when, probably revamping them as I go
I’ve no agenda here. I’m not seeking validation or approval. My posts may be infrequent or sporadic. It’s all on my own terms, self contained, self hosted and done just for the pleasure of doing it 🙂
